About us
The purpose of this website is to provide up-to-date developments and analyses of the proposed EU artificial intelligence law called the “AI Act”. This website is maintained by the Future of Life Institute (FLI). FLI is an independent non-profit working to reduce large-scale, extreme risks from transformative technologies. We also aim for the future development and use of these technologies to be beneficial to all. Our work includes grantmaking, educational outreach, and policy engagement. Our EU transparency register number is 787064543128-10.
In Europe, FLI has two key priorities: i) promote the beneficial development of artificial intelligence and ii) regulate lethal autonomous weapons. FLI works closely with leading AI developers to prepare its policy positions, funds research through recurring grant programs and organises global AI conferences. FLI created one of the earliest sets of AI governance principles – the Asilomar AI principles. The Institute, alongside the governments of France and Finland, is also the civil society champion of the recommendations on AI in the UN Secretary General’s Digital Cooperation Roadmap.

Risto Uuk
EU Research Lead
Risto Uuk is the EU Research Lead at FLI and is focused primarily on researching policy-making on AI to maximize the societal benefits of increasingly powerful AI systems. Previously, Risto worked for the World Economic Forum on a project about positive AI economic futures, did research for the European Commission on trustworthy AI, and provided research support at Berkeley Existential Risk Initiative on European AI policy. He completed a master’s degree in Philosophy and Public Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science. He has a bachelor’s degree from Tallinn University in Estonia.
Tekla Emborg
EU Fellow
Tekla Emborg joined FLI’s EU Policy team through the 7-month Talos Fellowship. Her research focuses on analyzing European AI policies and their effectiveness in mitigating AI risks. Previously, Tekla amongst other interned with the Danish law firm Gorrissen Federspiel and the Danish Consumer Council. She holds bachelor’s degrees in EU technology law and Philosophy from the University of Groningen with an exchange at the NLSIU in Bangalore. During her studies, she co-initiated Our Rule of Law, an initiative engaging law students across the EU in countering the ongoing attacks on the rule of law in Europe.
Taylor Jones
Design & Web Manager
Taylor is the Design & Web Manager at FLI and is responsible for updating, maintaining and improving all FLI websites, and contributing to a number of operations and outreach projects. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design from Falmouth University.
